kitchen granite countertop

The Process:

Now we will walk you through the granite installation process. Although this outline focuses on kitchen counters, the process is very similar for all granite installations.

Process:

Once you have a Job Confirmation, the countertop project goes through the production steps of templating, fabrication, tear out and installation. Tear out and installation occur on the same day.

Template:

During this process, we will come make a pattern of your cabinets and countertop areas. We ask that you have the existing countertops cleared and keep the work area free. This will help us to finish the template efficiently, and will also protect your items from any dust or damage. Templates usually take a couple of hours to complete.

During this phase:

  1. All sinks, cook tops, and faucets are checked for compatibility and fit. So please be sure all such units are on-site.
  2. Cabinets are reviewed for any needed adjustments.
  3. Countertop overhang, general support, seam placement, and personal preferences are discussed. If there are any refinements required prior to installation, we will notify you.

Project Information:

During installation, your undermount sink(s), if applicable, will be mounted under your stone. We ask that you do not plumb in or use the sink in any way for at least 12 hours. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your plumber to reconnect the water and drain. Also, cooktops and faucets, etc. will be dropped into place for confirmation of fit.

Project Information:

Below is a list of information we require prior to the production process. We will request this information when we come to template your countertops, or soon after.

  • Sinks (We will bring under mounted sinks with us to the shop.)
  • Faucet make, model, and placement
  • Cook top/Range make and model, cutout dimensions, and downdraft
  • Granite edge preference

Fabrication:

Prior to fabrication, we encourage you to approve your actual granite slabs. We will ask that you review and give final approval of the Post Template Checklist. If the drawing submitted for your quote differs from your actual job, we will let you know and adjust the price accordingly.

Tear Out:

If your project requires that we tear out and remove your existing countertops, we will do so at the time of installation. We will also disconnect your plumbing at this time, so be sure not to use your dishwasher until your plumber has reconnected the water.

Installation:

At installation, we ask that you clear the work area and make a path through which the installers may carry the granite. The installation phase can take the better part of a day, and may require some final cutouts to be made in your home. Some dust may result, though our installers are equipped to catch most of it. To protect your belongings, we recommend the cabinet contents and drawers be removed, especially under the cook top and sink.

During installation, we will set any under-mounted sinks. Cook tops, faucets, etc. will be dropped into place for confirmation of fit. Finally, granite, if not resin coated, is sealed at time of installation.

Once installation is complete, it is important not to use the sink in any way for at least 12 hours. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your plumber to reconnect the water and drain.

Job Completion:

Your inspection of the finished job is very important. The lead installer will review the installation with you, answer any questions, and ask for payment of the final balance due.
